Worcester Cross Plaque
Worcester Civic Society together with the Milestone Society has recently installed a bronze plaque to mark the position in Worcester of the original Old Cross.
This is the point from which all distances shown on milestones are measured.
It is hoped that this will be the first of a number of commemorative plaques that the Civic Society will install over the coming years.
Worcester Gate Plaques
A project being undertaken by the projects panel is the review of the original Worcester City Town Gate Plaques.
Most of these are in a very poor condition and we know that a couple are in fact in the wrong position.
We are currently waiting for posssible new designs for the gate plaques, which will be discussed at the executive meeting in July.
A decision will be taken as to whether we decide to replace or refurbish the existing plaques.
Civic Award Plaques
One of the ongoing initiatives that the project panel are engaged in is reviewing and photographing the civic award plaques that were issued by the City Council up until around 2002.
We have a number of photos missing and it seems a number of the plaques are also missing.
The details we have are based on the list from the Worcester Public Library and annotated by Professor Derek Law. When all the information has been collated we hope that together with the City Council we can re-establish the Civic Awards programme.
